How to Find Great Wine Values

So you've grabbed the cheapest bottle you could find on the shelf, and you're heading for the checkout. Does this mean you've found a great wine value?

No. Finding wine values involves a lot more than that. Of course, picking the most expensive bottle on the shelf doesn't mean you've chosen a quality wine either.

So what does that mean for people like you and I who are just trying to get the best quality for the least amount of money? How can you get the most bang for your buck?

First of all, avoid the extremes. Ignore the bargain basement brands, because these cheap wines will likely taste less than palatable. And if you don't have the money, don't be tempted to buy any of the overpriced snob wines either. Stick to the middle ground, where you are bound to find some great deals.

Experimentation is always a good idea when it comes to your wine selections. But do yourself a favor and only try wines for the first time when you're home alone. Trying out a new wine on company, or taking it to a party, could be a disaster!

You can also choose varietal wines that are traditionally less expensive. For example, a bottle of Pinot Blanc will often be less expensive than a bottle of Chardonnay. So don't always be too quick to look at the more popular varietal wines. They can cost you more. Most of the less popular varieties are still great wine values.

And don't be stuck on just buying American wines. Check out the wines from Australia, Chili, Canada and beyond. Or if you have some small local wineries, why not see if they have something to offer? Choosing from a larger selection will just increase your chances of finding great wine values.

However, there is an easier way! Someone has already done all the experimentation and come up with a list of great, inexpensive wines.

DIY - How to Install Kitchen Cabinets

One of the best ways to economize on your kitchen project cabinets, thank about installing on your own.

You will need to make up a plan to successfully attack the installation of you your kitchen cabinet with a friend or partner, though, because it's very difficult to position those cabinets alone.

Continue to study this to learn the information about how to easily install kitchen cabinets by yourself!

* Before anything else, assemble the cabinets employing the instructions that accompanied them.

* Employ a pencil to lightly mark the cabinet positioning. Insure that they will be level and will not interfere with your electrical outlets, will permit you to use your current plumbing, and things if this nature. How dreadful would it be if you found when your installation was complete you determine that your sink doesn't fit..

* It does not matter hardly at all, you can choose to install the wall or the floor units first. Included instructions direct you need to install the units of the floor first, however if you are more comfortable you can do it the other way around.

* Employ a stud locator to find the studs for each cabinet. Make certain to fasten the cabinets to the studs, and use cabinet screws instead of using drywall screws. Drywall screws just can't cope with the weight of kitchen cabinets.

* Bore guide holes. This prevents your cabinets from splitting and results in the cleanest joins.

* Fasten the cabinets to the wall studs employing a cabinet screw at the top and bottom of the cabinet unit. For sturdier cabinets, it's a very good idea additional to screws to buttress the weight.

* Examine each cabinet to make sure that it's level before securing it to anything. It could be necessary to add filler material like wood slats or tile underlayment beneath the units to insure your cabinet's level.

* Set the corner cabinets first, since it will be impossible to move the wall if you end up with less space than anticipated! Subsequently install the other units around them. If you have voids between the units or need to adjust one down to allow for the wiring or plumbing, place a wood panel in-between the units.

* When you're ready to install non-corner units, it would be a important idea to fasten them together, and then attach them to the wall. This assures that the front panels are flat and flush with each other.

* In the case of wall units, the procedure is nearly the same, however if you have really sturdy ones, you will most likely need to employ wood pieces called "shims" beneath them to help underpin the bulk.

* You may choose to employ a friend or partner to help hold up the cabinets, however if you followed the suggestion to connect your cabinets into a row before you put them up, it's going to be difficult to handle all that bulk. Experiment with stacking buckets or paint cans beneath the units to assist in keeping them up there. You should still to have your helper hold tightly; it would be really despicable if they fell over and were blemished or fractured

* Once you have got all of the screws into place, you will need to carefully remove the supports.

Wine Accessories at Kitchen Junkie

Wine is more than an alcoholic beverage. It's almost a way of life! There are more wine accessories available than you could even imagine. From the necessities like corkscrews and glasses, to the not so necessary yet entertaining accessories like decanters, ice buckets, and pourers- there is more to wine than just drinking it.

Corkscrews & Openers

While there are hundreds of varieties of corkscrews, they all work in basically the same fashion. You screw one end directly into the center of the wine's cork, and use a handle to life the cork out of the bottle in order to enjoy your bottle of wine.

If you want something other than a corkscrew, you can find another style of opener that uses cartridges to "pop" the cork out of the bottle. The pop style openers tend to be a little more expensive than the traditional corkscrew, but image is everything when it comes to wine, and a specialty opener may be just the extra accessory you need for your dinner parties or restaurant atmosphere.

Decanters

Decanters are glass bottles with special shapes designed to encourage the heightening of wine flavors when you store your open wine in them. They also make for a nice presentation when you place the decanter on the table.

There are literally countless different shapes and styles that decanters come in. Many resemble a glass flower vase. Certain wines should be placed in specific shapes of wine decanters in order to enhance the flavor of the wine to the fullest extent. Others can be stored in any of the fancy decanters.

For an incredible display, you could find a decanter with it's own base unit. These are highly stylish, and often hold the decanter at an angle, and suspended over the table.

Some decanters come with glass ball stoppers to be placed on the opening of the bottle in order to keep the freshness in when the wine is stored. Air can have damaging effects to the properties of wine, and so it's usually best to keep open wine in an airtight container.

Additionally, some decanters are able to remove sediments from older wine and aerate younger wines to further enhance their flavors.

Decanters are certainly not necessary to drinking wine (you can place the cork back in the bottle of a wine to keep the air out when you're not pouring the wine) but they certainly make for a nicer presentation and can actually help the overall flavor of the wine.

Wine Racks

Where do you store your wine bottles? If you're like most people, you keep them in one of your kitchen cabinets until you're ready to use them, or maybe in the basement. If you drink wine often, however, you would probably enjoy having an elegant and functional wine rack in the kitchen or dining room that is designed to display and hold your wine bottles, glasses, and accessories.

Some wine racks are mounted to overhead cabinet space, so that the bottles are placed lying down inside them, while the glasses hang from their stems. These are perfect for kitchens with decent space under their overhead cabinets. If you don't have the room for this style of wine rack, there are wine racks that sit directly on the counter, and hold the bottles at arms reach.

If your kitchen simply doesn't have the space on the counter top or under the overhead cabinets for these styles, you can enjoy a wine rack that stands alone. These often have small base units, sometimes refrigerated, as well as space for glasses and accessories. They take up more floor space, but can really dress up a dining area.

How to Create More Valuable Space in Your Home

Feel like you're running out of space for all your stuff? Here are simple ideas for using your space more effectively.

Not enough or badly used?

Do you have insufficient storage space or ineffective storage space? There's a big difference. Insufficient storage space means you do not have enough space for your things. Ineffective space means you have enough space for your things, but you're not making the best use of that space.

Most closets and cabinets have the volume to hold twice as much as they are usually constructed for. And you probably have quite a few nooks and crannies for storage that you have not even thought of. Of course, it's important to make sure you don't have things you don't like, are outdated, etc., but it is also important to have effective storage space for the things you do like and enjoy.

Add-a-rod

Looking for extra storage space in your wardrobe? If you have the type of wardrobe with two walls for hanging clothes, on one wall fix a rod at head height for long clothing (dresses, trousers, etc.). On the other wall, fix two rods--one above the other--for shorter clothing (shirts, skirts, blazers, etc.) In other words, you're not restricted to only one clothing rod.

Use your suitcases

Do not store these empty. Either put smaller ones inside large ones like a Russian doll or fill the cases with un-seasonal clothing; all your scarves and woolly gloves should be out of the way but in one place until winter returns.

Put up shelves

Most shelves can be moved up-a-notch or down-a-notch. If you have three inches of space above your linens, you may consider adjusting the shelf so the shelf below it has more space. Or, perhaps you can add another shelf in between. Plastic, multiple level shelves are wonderful for kitchen cabinets. And corner shelves are great for picture frames, knick knacks and other small treasures.

Use storage units

Storage units, which can be picked up from DIY or hardware stores, are great space savers. Your spices can be removed from drawers and placed on a spice rack. There are racks for canned goods that, when a can is taken from it, the next can in line rolls forward. Some of these hold over 40 cans! Ice cube trays are inexpensive storage containers for smaller items such as earrings. There are coffee tables on the market with storage space hidden inside. Under bed containers are perfect for storing quilts and linens. Be creative and make use of these great tools!

Don't forget about wall space

Look around and you're sure to find quite a bit of empty wall space. There are many uses for this new-found space. Pots and pans can be taken out of cabinets and hung on walls. Tools can be placed on pegboards. Shelves can be installed for picture frames and knick knacks. Many stores now carry corner shelves that can be installed in a snap.

Put frequently used items within arms reach

Whenever possible, store regularly used items where you use them most. For example you could make a toilet paper holder on the back of your bathroom cabinet door, with a small dowel, 2 nails and 2 loops of rope. It holds three rolls of toilet paper, and it's right where it is needed most. You should not have to walk from one room to another to retrieve items you use every day. Store linens in the bedroom. Store videos near the television. If you use the scissors in the office area and in the sewing room, have two pairs of scissors, one in each room.

Add-a-drawer or sliding shelf

Many stores carry drawers that can be installed underneath a cabinet. These are great if you have a home with limited drawer space. In addition, you can also install shelves under cabinets that slide out when you need them, and slide back in when you're finished with them.

Keep your desk clear

A clear desk is directly related to your productivity. You will get more done, if you're not constantly under a pile of papers and files. A sturdy, full-suspension filing cabinet is a must for any home or office. Portable file boxes that hold hanging file folders also come in handy. There are plenty of storage choices for CD-ROMs and diskettes. Desk supplies belong in an on-the-desk caddy or in trays inside your desk.

Rearrange

Everyone is different, and has different needs. Make your home or office work for you. One woman I know told me she never uses her dining room, not even when she has company over. And she had no intention of ever using it since her kitchen was big and elegant enough. She also said she hated her dark basement office. So, I suggested she rearrange a bit, and turn her dining room into her office. And that is exactly what she did. So think about your surroundings and make them work for you, even if they seem a little out of the ordinary.

Rotate

You may have many items you love in your home or office, but not enough space. Rotate them. In other words, keep some things in storage for a month or two and display some of your things. Then, once that time is up, make the switch. The items on display go into storage; the items in storage go on display. What a neat idea!

Finally

There is always a limit to how much you can store in your home or garage, so once a year be brutal and have a clear out, donate items to charity shops, go to a boot sale, have a yard sale but what ever you do get rid of excess 'stuff'!
