Using a Rabbit Corkscrew Securely

The rabbit corkscrew is a wise used device when it comes to opening wines. Even if it is very easy to use and manipulate, there are people that say it can get unreliable and even hard to handle, but their problem is not the opener. They simply do not know how to use it correctly and this is where their problem comes from. For all of you new comers to the wine lovers community, here are some basic instructions on opening a bottle with a rabbit corkscrew.

- The first thing you have to do before starting to use the rabbit corkscrew on a bottle, is to remove any type of protections the bottle has. This means no seals; no foils or any other packaging should be present. People that try to use the opener on bottles with seals will only make the opening process a lot more complicated and a lot harder than it should be.

- Then, you should take the corkscrew by its handles and place it on the bottle. You will notice how it will securely attach itself to the bottle. Manage the handles a bit so that the device is tightly placed, in such a way that it may even be able to lift the entire weight of the bottle if detached from the table.

- When the rabbit corkscrew has pierced the cork, you can begin to squeeze on the handles gently. No force is required to pull the cork out. If you attempt to open the bottle by force, as it is required when using other openers, you might damage the device. So simply push the handles concomitantly until the cork pops out. It will only take some seconds if handled correctly.

- If your rabbit corkscrew hasn't been used for a while, it might need some technical revisions. Any mishandling or damage that is not attended to can affect its integrity in such a way that it might start to push the cork down inside instead of pulling it upwards. Make sure all parts are securely placed before using an old opener.

I had been wanting to buy this spice rack forever. The price was just a little bit too much for me. I was going to wait and buy it later on. One day i went to Home Goods and found this exact spice rack for 20 dollars! and bought it. Such a great buy.

I opened it and the spice rack looks way nice than the one I had before which was the Olde Thompson 20 piece Arlington set. Arlington 20-Jar Spice Rack I love this one way more. It looks really nice, and it very space efficient. I have the space for a bigger one, but this one just looks so nice. I love it.

My question i had though that no one answered in the customer reviews was what came with it. I had to open it and found out that it has these spices for those who wondered like i did.

Basil, caraway, celery seed, chives, cinnamon, coriander, cumin, fennel, ginger, marjoram, oregano, parsley, rosemary, sage, savory, thyme, cajun seasoning, garlic salt, italian seasoning, and lastly seasoning salt.

I love this spice rack and the bottle design is great, easy to read white letters on the tops compared to the ones with the writing on the side of the jar. Very satisfied.

This is a great spice rack that doesn't take much space. It has the best spices and it is easy to read.



Beware of Undesirable Substitutions............ - D. Houck - Kansas City, MO
I found this spice rack in a local store, but ordered from Amazon due to the price difference. However, the rack contained many "undesirable" substitutions. Instead of basil, bay leaves, coriander, paprika, parsley and thyme as pictured on the box and as found at my local store, I received garlic salt, Herbs Provence(?), black pepper, chili powder, steak seasoning and herb poultry seasoning.

In any spice rack set, you will find a few things you won't use, but these substitutions combined with the expected ones I wouldn't use represent about half of the set (I use garlic powder, not salt; chili pepper, not powder; and would never use the poultry, steak and herbs provence item.) The purpose of having a spice rack is to have your essential spices in a neat, organized, easily accessible area to the stove. If you have to have as many essential spices setting next to the spice rack instead of in it, you've defeated the purpose of the rack.

It is a nice looking rack, well constructed and fit my space nicely. Since I'm attempting to return it, I couldn't testify as to the quality of the spices. This was not a cost effective purchase for me because of the substitutions, but would happily purchase it again if the spices I expected to find were included.






Can't relabel jars - E. Dixon - New York, NY
This design is both good-looking and space-saving, but the jar lids come permanently labeled. So, if you don't like some of the included spices (or simply have others that you use more) you're out of luck. (I'm a pretty serious cook and don't use a lot of prepackaged seasoned salts or other mixes - I tend to make my own.) And the lid design makes it almost impossible to simply use a label maker to relabel the jars, unless you're willing to sacrifice function. (Each lid has 2 flaps, one for sprinkling and one for pouring, so sticking on a new label will seal at least one flap - and the label probably won't adhere as well because of the gaps). Frankly, I don't really use the pour features on my current spice jars and wish these jars just came with solid lids that could be labeled/relabeled at will. The jars in the carousel version of this spice rack don't seem to have the same problem (you can affix your own labels to the glass beneath the lid) but the design isn't as modern looking and takes up more space.

Buying a Kitchen Spice Rack With Or Without Spices

One thing to think about before buying a kitchen spice rack is whether or not to get a rack that includes spices. Most spice racks that you can purchase at major retailers include the ingredients with them. One issue with this is that you are forced to use whatever spices they give you.

An alternative is to buy a rack that doesn't include the spices. This way you can purchase the ones you really need at any grocery store or specialty shop. This can be a cheaper alternative as store bought spices can run cheaper since they usually come in plastic bags. If you decide to go the route of buying your own, make sure you do a little research. First you need to know how many spice jars you have since this will determine the number of spices that you will need to make the rack look whole. Next think about the spices that you cook with the most. List them out and try to come up with just as many as jars that you have.

Next you will need to come up with the layout of the spices. Ideally you should put your most used spices in the front of the rack with the less used near the rear and the bottom of the rack. To transfer the spices from their bags to the jars in your rack, purchase a cheap small funnel that you can use to get the spices into the jars with little or no waste. Clip a corner of the plastic bag off and dump them into the funnel.

Finally you will need to get labels for your spice containers. If you buy a rack with the spices included, most likely it will include pre printed labels to match the spices in the box. Some racks will come with blank labels that you can write on. A designer idea would be to purchase printer labels. This way you can use a designer looking font to make the labels look professional. Be sure that whichever labels you buy they are small enough to not detract from the look of the overall spice rack.

Kitchen spice racks can make your cooking experience a better one. The rack will keep you from hunting through your cabinets looking for that one ingredient you can't find. When buying one, be sure to make a decision on whether you want to have the spices included or if you want to build your own.

This corkscrew is pretty bad. It breaks corks often, and it is difficult to use with synthetic corks. I have better luck using my restaurant-style corkscrew and some elbow grease. The corkscrew I got from IKEA for is better than this one. It looks nice but that's it. This was poorly constructed and I was disappointed. I wouldn't have made the purchase if I knew this, and won't buy this brand ever again. Listen to the bad reviews on this one!
